I finally figured it out!

Just watched the first part of the Sarah Palin/Charlie Gibson interview. Scares me to death that she thinks there is a plan for this world. Also scared me that she said, at her church in June, "We are sending them out on a task from God." (referring to sending soldiers to Iraq, and oh by the way, Gov. Palin, that is in no way a quote from Abraham Lincoln, at least as you paraphrased it). The latter reeks of holy warism, and the former certainly does relieve us of the job of making this world a better place than when we entered it. I mean, why bother when some all-knowing being has a blueprint and artistic control?
I was glad I watched the interview, because I suddenly realized what bugs me the most about Sarah Palin. She appears to have no independent thoughts. From what I can gather, her church probably told her to be totally pro-life, the McCain campaign told her to be a "maverick", and someone has told her what to think about global politics. This is the thing that bothers me most about George W. as well. They don't read, they don't research issues for themselves, and therefore, they are incapable of beginning a sentence, "I've read about this, and here's what I think." I'll admit that I'm just as lethargic as the next person when it comes to finding out the background of certain global issues, but I'm not running for office (just yet.... : )). A co-worker of mine, who happens to be from a country where we are fighting a war, brought this to my attention months ago. He said, "Americans are lazy. They allow their leaders to tell them things, ways to think, but they don't read histories of other countries, they don't try to understand for themselves WHY something is happening in another country." I believe this is precisely why George W. was shocked when we invaded Iraq, and found that people in the region hated us for it. He didn't bother to read a history of the region, to learn about the people, their beliefs, and more importantly, WHY they believed what they did. And Sarah Palin is exactly like him. But with higher hair.
