McCain--so good, he was scary.

First of all, to all of you "visual patriots" out there, neither McCain nor Palin were wearing flag pins during their speeches. I know that's an important part of being a patriot for you, a litmus test as it will, but Obama and Biden were the only ones to pass your onerous test. Oh, and by the way, for you "verbal patriots", Palin "forgot" to "God Bless America."
Anyway, I thought John McCain was good. Maybe I've become used to a president who cannot string 4 words together without stumbling, but McCain's speech was intelligent and well-delivered. Most of it was canned, but I was moved when he spoke about his time as a POW. The man was a war hero, and definitely has a story to tell.
I will say I was almost ready to turn it off in the first minute, when he managed to work in 9/11. I am in no way belittling the events of that day, but come on--we are STILL talking about it 7 years later?!! I am pretty sure that in 1952, people were not still talking about WW II, trying to work up some terror in the hearts of the electorate, and yet here we are. It is time to move on, to learn from history so that we do not repeat it. To work to improve things in the Middle East, not meddle to the point that the citizens hate us....oops, too late for that.
I did think the response of the delegates was lukewarm at best, but when you announce, during the RNC, that you work for no party, you've got to expect that. And when you say that government has failed the American public, particularly during the last administration, you've got to expect silence, not rousing applause. Yes indeed, John McCain is a brave man.
It was clear to me that John McCain will be the voice of reason on the ticket, and Sarah Palin will be his attack poodle. I just hope she knows what she's in for--she will be debating someone who can counter her snide comments with substance, and her cute quips with facts. She is NOT running against Obama, although she seems to forget that--she should be telling us why she is qualified to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. So far I haven't heard any discussion of that from her.
Finally, my wise friend Randy cautioned Sarah Palin to remember that Jesus was a community organizer and that it was Pontious Pilot who was the governor. But I'm sure, as a good Christian, she doesn't need to be reminded of that.
