I Will Hold Them Accountable

My status update on Facebook today reads, "Bleah. Politics leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Guess I'll go lick a clown." Pretty much sums up how I feel today, the day after the 2nd Presidential Debate. Why oh why didn't someone ask them if, from this moment forward, McCain and Obama would agree to refrain from negative ads? I'm sure Obama is guilty of it too, but McCain's campaign, thanks to Karl Rove and friends, seems to have those ads down to a fine art. The latest is an ad trying to link Obama to a member of the Weather Underground. Huh?!! Aren't those guys dead yet? They must be...old...(heh heh Crabgrass). In any case, the guy they are trying to link him to did jail time and now is a college professor.
That being said, the hate speech is working--John McCain and Sarah Palin should be so proud. On Monday, John McCain was speaking at a rally, and he posed a question to the crowd, asking them what kind of man is Barack Obama. From out of the crowd, you hear very clearly, "He's a terrorist." To his credit, McCain visibly reacts, looking very suprised that someone would call Obama a terrorist--I HOPE he reacts this way because he doesn't believe it, and is surprised that someone would say that. However, McCain should be held responsible for riling a certain segment of society with his hateful, distorted ads.
But then came the most disturbing news off the campaign trail:

"The Washington Post's Dana Milbank reported an incident at a Palin rally that should open America's eyes to the central role violent rhetoric now plays in the McCain campaign. Milbank describes how Palin told the crowd in Florida that Obama has close associations with a terrorist who sought to bomb the Pentagon and the U.S. Capital, in response to which the crowd responded with a threat on Sen. Obama's life:

"Now it turns out, one of his earliest supporters is a man named Bill Ayers...And, according to the New York Times, he was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, 'launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and our U.S. Capitol,'" she continued.

"Boooo!" the crowd repeated.

"Kill him!" proposed one man in the audience."

Does this disturb you as much as it does me? I am appalled that this woman is running for a major office in our government, and she's inciting riots at her campaign rallies. What's worse is that Joe Lieberman was standing behind her, taking it all in and I guess agreeing with her. Shame on him! If, God forbid, anything happens to Obama, I will hold McCain and Palin personally responsible.

On to last night's debate. Who cares? We heard very little new from either side. What I find interesting was what happened after the debate--John McCain stayed for a couple of minutes, then was nowhere to be seen. Did he leave? Was it past his bedtime? The second striking thing was the demeanor of Cindy McCain. She walked a proper 2 paces behind John, and refused to shake hands with anyone. Struck a pose that reminded me alot of the British Royal family--hands behind back, smiling slightly. In contrast, Obama and his wife were in the crowd for an extremely long time, talking to members of the audience, posing for photos, shaking hands.
Note to John McCain: now THAT'S a way to win elections, not the hateful way you're doing it.
