Aftermath....

So, the elections are over. If you are happy with the results, good. Now hold your representatives to their promises. Their PROMISES--you know, the things they said they would DO that would make you want to vote for them. HOLD THEM TO IT.
If you are sad or angry about the results, then good. Do something about it. Get involved in local politics. Run for office. Give money, time to those organizations that YOU think will make a difference now, and two years from now. Channel that sadness into writing letters, making phone calls, showing up at town halls and council meetings. Go to your Statehouse. Go to Washington. Speak until you cannot speak any more.
But for goodness sakes, do SOMETHING. Win or lose, the future of our country depends on US--the citizens--being involved, and informed. Teach our children by example. Turn off Fox, and pick up a newspaper. Start thinking for yourself. Take the time to weigh both sides of an issue. And teach your children to do the same.
An uneducated, distracted electorate is the most dangerous of all. Win or lose, the leaders need to be watched, and held accountable. Yes, it will take a little of your precious time.
But we're worth it. And, for fuck's sake, WE are the grownups.
And, one last thing. Thank you to those who run. Thank you John Dale, Ashley Smith, Michael Oxenrider--you are amazing.
Here's my latest Letter to the Editor....
