Since Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, and the GOP have asked, I will answer their question.
Response # 5 to the question: "Are YOU better off than you were 4 years ago?"
The answer is yes. Yes, I am better off.
Why? Because my president and my vice president understand what it's like to be like me. They came from people like me.
You may not think that makes a difference when electing a president, but it does to me. I want to know that the president I elect to represent me....does. In order to represent me, it helps if that person has had a "common" life--one in which there have been struggles, financial uncertainty, and enough tribulation that the person is changed; becomes more empathetic, more understanding of the "human condition".
There is no financial uncertainty if you have inherited your money, if your safety net is as wide as the ocean. It's harder to have empathy if you've not had to come together with family or friends to help one another. If you've never been tested. It's easier then to make decisions for the country; everything is a little more "black and white", with no grey.
If you are like "every person" it's harder to believe the cliches about those on welfare, those who are gay, those who are different from you. It allows you to know there is a box to think outside of.
Look at the life of Barack Obama. Look at the life of Joe Biden. They know. They know about people like me, because they are. People like me.
