"Are you better off than you were 4 years ago?": Response # 24

Since Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, and the GOP have asked, I will answer their question.
Response # 24 to the question:  "Are YOU better off than you were 4 years ago?"

The answer is yes.  Yes, I am better off.

As you know, there are 24 hours in a day.  When you have a sick, cranky baby in your arms, those hours drag by.  Heck, even minutes can tick by at a tortuously slow pace.  But when you're busy, the hours in the day fly by; sometimes it seems as if you need more hours in the day, just to get everything done.
Imagine how Barack Obama felt in January of 2009.  Great Inauguration Day, some cool parties, then BANG! reality hits and you have 1,692,506 things that need your immediate attention.  On minute one of day one.  I'll bet a lot of those 24 hour days seemed to fly by.  Just soooooo much to do.
Toward the end of President Obama's first month in office, he took time during his day to sign his first bill into law.  A law that improved the lives of women (and their families) in the United States--the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.  This piece of legislation takes us one step closer to justice in the workplace:  "Equal Pay for Equal Work".  If a woman knows she is being paid less than a male counterpart doing the exact same job, under the Ledbetter Act, she can sue her employer for this discrimination.  She gets better pay, and she can support her family.
This Act is probably not important to the 1% of the nation who are extra, extra wealthy, but it sure does help the lower and middle class people who sometimes need to count every penny that's coming in.   And, as a wise man recently said, "We do best when the middle class is doing well."
Equal pay for equal work is a great way to make sure all of us are better off.
